Strengthening Service Planning Across Council Services

Challenge

A local government organisation wanted to improve how services documented their purpose, resources, risks, service levels and future challenges. Existing planning information was held across multiple sources, making it difficult to compare services, identify pressures and support strategic decision-making.

Approach

A structured service planning model was developed to help teams capture key information in a consistent format. The process brought together operational knowledge, financial information, workforce considerations, asset dependencies, risks, customer needs and strategic alignment.

Collaborative workshops were used to draw out service insights from staff, while the final plans translated this information into clear, usable documents for managers and leaders.

Outcome

The service planning process improved visibility of service delivery, resource needs and improvement opportunities. It helped create a stronger link between strategy, operations, workforce planning, financial sustainability and service performance.

Key capabilities demonstrated

Service planning, workshop design, strategic alignment, operational analysis, workforce and financial considerations, and practical documentation.
